[B18] Improbable Live

My first Contemporary duo was with multi instrumentalist Jim Tetlow. I met him in 2007 when he was playing in Endgame, We hit it off immediately like we were twins. Soon I was staying weekends at his studio at Elmsthorpe, Leicestershire, where we recorded a series of 8 seminal albums. Better Than Even is the last of the Elmsthorpe Albums as Jim moves his studio to Leicester, on to the same street as David Dhonau and Ola Szmidt. A lot of music shared between us all - some 60 albums - the majority of The DCM Cm Albums. There was quite a break between our 10th and the eleventh album Cellestation. The Eleventh and the Twelfth albums are more or less concurrent - it would be the Thirteenth album Tredecadent Voices that would mark the change. A gap of years and an apocalyptic break with Leicester was just around a corner - during which the World happened to me and to the DCM label. We returned to begin a new six album Leicester phase with what is a stunning 14th album OBAH. Now friends for life - Jim and I have 19 albums together and 3 Arkiv Discs.

The Time after the 13th album - Tredecadent Voices - wasn’t actually ‘Just’ before my Serious Break with the Leicester Underground - for pastures new. There was a was a huge amount of Collaborative music inbetween. As Director of DCM I was involved with the Sci Fi Kosmiche project - [H] The Flying Saucers producing for DCM or at least rediscovering a set of Five Beautiful Cosmic Albums. Then there was a second phase of [F] D’juil with David Dhonau - our Albums [F] 9 to 15 (May to December 2011). As 2012 turned there were two Collaborations with Polish Flautist Vocal Artist Ola Szmidt as [I] OLArJ [Ola and J-ulian] with Cellist David Dhonau and four further Albums as [J] OLAU - [Ola and the U is from JUlian] - Then there is the Break with Leicester.

Then I - as DCM turn my attention to Europe with German Woodwind genius Markus Wenninger and Croatian composer Jurica Jelic as [K] JJM. JJM then the name JJM becomes a sub label for me, for [K] JJM [confusingly], for [L] Wenninger Broadhurst - : [M] Anjelic - with Jurica Jelic and Marcus Beuter and With Serbian Pianist Marina Vesic as [N] Konnyek. Back home I record an Audio book for [O] Poet Reg Keeling before finally returning to Jim for [B 14] OBAH in February 2013. A difficult story but I have to get it right. Match the index letters to the chronologies below.

After the tumult of getting to our 14th album at all things were now plain sailing - for the 15th album Venus and Adonis a second album from Jim’s new Leicester studio. A year after the first - during which time I worked with - Konnyek - [P] Alician with Harpist Alison Katy - [Q] The Lords of the Dance with percussionist Walt Shaw - and D’juil again. For our Sixteenth and seventeenth album, the much acclaimed Frozen and in Short order Serious A- another year passes - with albums for D’juil and Wenninger Broadhurst - “It’s getting like a soul show now” observed Jon Anderson.


B18] Improbable Live - Fast forward to 2017 and it is a very busy time for Tetlow and Broadhurst with another two albums in quick succession and an interesting tie up with my other big collaboration D’juil with Cellist David Dhonau. The three of us then up at my Isabel Studio in Derbyshire as [R] Etau a corruption of Et al - the Latin ‘and all.’

We are invited to play at one of Tricestor’s oldest pubs - ‘the Moth and Candle’ - and did we set the place ablaze. A Sixteenth Centuary Coach House, by the town cross, with a large back room - once for feasting and always for music. We documented this performance as our 18th album improbably as Improbable live.

We are Theatrical people - Puck’s Children - if life is Art then sometimes it is Artifice.
