Arkiv 16 - One Afternoon in April


Arkiv 16 - ‘One Afternoon in April’ - music from the ‘April Awaken’ session. The session from which I took ‘April Awaken - Rh 170’ my longest single, unmodified Drum Solo at 32 minutes - April 2007 - for the Album of that name, my 38th Album. It is the first piece on an album of many different percussion pieces - stolen moments of rhythm indoors and out. This Arkiv Disc presents the rest of the session.

April Awaken – Rh 170.

My Longest single movement Drum Work. .At the begging I can be heard speaking to the microphone '1st of April - 2007,' dating the recording, but as the intension of the piece was to create a waking of April, I left it in.

The Session with that same big Drum - paints the picture around it. five pieces excised form the junk of s studio session with a little bit of fun I liked where someone hands me a cup of tea. The last piece on the disc is a sound check from my ‘Forum of faith’ at the ‘Spot’ recordings - see complete performances on my album Dm Arkiv 3 - Sometime Live. It is quite articulate a tiny piece complete in itself -a tiny moment of thought and motion.

It is still my early Days of drumming, in the contiguous style I had developed. April Awaken was the 11th album in the Drum music Genre, album 38 overall - well into my Second album Group The New Horizon - a clear view of experimental work after my foundational first group. The New Horizon group is rich in drum music that disappears completely in the third group ‘The Golden Band.’ After which it returns in avengeance - in groups 4 and 5 - in a completely re cast style of punctuation, pause, poise and stabbing short phrasing - a ‘bar code’ pointillism.


At the end of my work, I am closing down my five Genres or Tranches. There remained though some lost pieces that needed to be included. So I felt each Genre should have an Arkiv of its own. Three of my five Genres needed such a space - hence Dm [Drum music] - Phm [Phase music] and Em [electronic music] have three, one and two albums respectively - to be placed after the Album 144 Summing for an end - set ‘on a shelf’ as it were - as kind of a last hurrah for those said Genres - which have served their purpose now. I delight in that German Spelling.

For my 113th Album I created a box of 14 Discs [by convention] of Arkiv pieces - with a yellow DCM cover. This is my central published Archive. So now at the very end of my work following all of the above there are Six Yellow jacketed Arkiv Discs, that number off from my Box of Delights - Hence 15 - 20, to be consistent with he 14 discs in the Box of Delights.

So on this ‘shelf’ of my works, as it were : as my British Library Edition - we will have my 143 albums - the five working Genres though the five Chronological Groups including the Arkiv Box at 113. Then as Album 144 we have the 3 boxes ‘Summing for an end’. Following that are six blue jacketed Arkiv albums - the Dm, Phm and the Em Arkiv and 6 yellow jacketed Arkiv albums. Toping off all that are my 21 Collaborations and all their albums - indexed A - U. And that is my life. What anybody will ever make of it I can’t say - suffice to say it is.
